President Emomali Rahmon Attends CSTO Collective Security Council’s Emergency Session

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part and addressed the emergency session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s Collective Security Council.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council Nikol Pashinyan chaired the videoconference meeting which was devoted to the situation in Kazakhstan and measures to normalize it.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov, and Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation Stanislav Zas also took part in the meeting.

The CSTO meeting began with a minute of silence to honor the memory of the victims of the riots in Kazakhstan. Today has been declared a national day of mourning.

The CSTO leaders exchanged views on the current situation and its impact on the security of the CSTO member states, and expressed concern over the difficult situation.

President Tokayev spoke in detail about the situation in Kazakhstan and measures to stabilize it.

CSTO Secretary General Zas reported on the implementation of the decision of the Collective Security Council to provide assistance to Kazakhstan.

In his speech, President Rahmon noted Tajikistan’s supports of the initiatives of the leadership of Kazakhstan to stabilize the situation and restore order.

He drew the attention of the members to the existence of sleeping cells of international terrorism, extremism and radicalism within the territory of the CSTO, as well as their efforts to attract and galvanize citizens.

For this reason President Rahmon called for strengthening the comprehensive collaboration of the competent authorities of the CSTO member states in the face of these challenges and threats.

He also noted a number of initiatives, including the need to develop a system for the protection of the informational space.

The heads of the CSTO member states stressed the importance of restoring security and stability in Kazakhstan.

During the session, the participants made a number of proposals to ensure security in Kazakhstan and prevent its impact on the security of member states.
