The fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan was held yesterday in Dushanbe.

The parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, economic, investment, agricultural, industrial, energy, transport areas, in the fields of communications and modern technologies, education, science, healthcare, tourism, banking, sports, culture, labor, migration, and other priority areas of cooperation. The sides discussed the creation of joint industrial enterprises and technology parks, including in the free economic zones of Tajikistan with the involvement of Azeri investments and imports of oil products.

The meeting also focused on promising areas of cooperation in key areas.
A protocol was signed following the meeting.

The head of the Foreign Trade Regulation and Development Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade Eraj Abdurahmonov said that Azerbaijan is one of the trade partners of Tajikistan. Last year Tajikistan exported paper and cardboard, while Azerbaijan imported vegetable oil, sugar, oilseeds, and other products.

“The trade turnover between the two countries in 2021 amounted to $6.1 million, which does not correspond to the potential of the two countries, so work should be intensified in this direction,” he noted.
